Camps of Silver Lake

Camp Red Wing / Camp Red Cloud 1912 - 1939

Reprinted by The E. L. Rose Conservancy
of Susquehanna County, Inc.

The original brochures from Camp Red Wing for Girls and Camp Red Cloud for Boys have been faithfully reprinted with more than 52 pages of photographs and text.  They tell of a time gone by at Silver Lake and Susquehanna County, when the camps were first established by J. Russell Townsend in 1912 for the sons and daughters of some of the most prominent and discriminating families in America.  They describe a fascinating glimpse of camp life in the early part of the 20th century, but also a retrospect of a vanished era in the history of Silver Lake.  Imagine what $300 could buy for an entire camp season in 1934.

The paperback books are available for $18 at Sea Hag Soaps and Mercantile in Brackney, PA., 570-663-2297.  (They make wonderful holiday gifts!)

All proceeds raised from this project, which was underwritten by two friends of the Conservancy at no cost to us, go to our Stewardship Fund which is used to monitor land under our easement protection.
